On Wednesday 20th November 2013 the Banyule Community Health Board Chair (John Ferraro) and Deputy Chair (David McKenzie) and some BCH staff attended the Victorian Public Health Care Awards.
BCH were finalists in the following two categories in what is a very competitive field with independent judges chosen from across the health sector:
1. Primary Health Service of the Year for the achievements of the entire agency.
2. Outstanding achievement by an Individual or Team in Healthcare for the work of the Aboriginal Health Team
Unfortunately we were not announced as winners in either category, however BCH received a Highly Commended award in both the above categories. To be identified as a leading Primary Health Care service and a leader in service delivery to the Aboriginal community is a significant achievement of which we should all be very proud.
Particular thanks go to Paula Russell, Sharyn Lovett, Madison Connors, Rob Patton and Mick Geary from the Aboriginal Health Team who have worked tirelessly to develop and deliver a high standard and responsive service to meet the needs of the local indigenous community. Thanks also to Siobhan Newman and Alex Phillips for preparing the written submissions.
